In this assignment, you will write a C++ program that will run a basic text analysis of the book “Free as in Freedom: Richard Stallman´s Crusade for Free Software” by Sam Williams. The file including the link for the text and the assignment instructions will be attached as well. ELET 2300 Spring 2022 Assignment 3 User-defined functions, vectors/arrays, and I/O Due: 04/25/22 upload .cpp or .cc file only no late submissions In this assignment, you will write a C++ program that will run a basic text analysis of the book “Free as in Freedom: Richard Stallmanś Crusade for Free Software” by Sam Williams. The text can be downloaded from: https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/5768/pg5768.txt Download the file to your folder of preference (e.g., your Desktop). The file contains plain text (.txt), which you can check by opening it with Notepad or Wordpad. Then write a C++ program to find out and print the following information: 1. How many lines are empty? 2. What is the ratio of upper-case letters [A-Z] to lower-case letters [a-z]? 3. What is the percentage of lines that contain number(s) [0-9] to the total number of lines? 4. What is the ratio of punctuation symbols to letters [a-z] [A-Z]. Note that you must exclude from the count of symbols the non-visible characters in the file, such as ’\n’. 5. What is and how long is the longest line? 6. Tell whether the number of times the word “the” appears more often than “and”. Note that you must count those words regardless of the use of capitals, i.e., do count “The” and ”the”, but not “they” or “Other” where “the” appears as part of another letter. Write your code in a modular way. You must implement the program with user-defined functions, at least using the following ones: • EVALUATE, which receives the name of the file to be processed as the argument, which is“pg5768.txt” in our case. However, the same program should work with any other file. This function should implement a C++ loop that reads and process one line from the file at a time. • CHECKEMPTYLINE, which tells (true/false) whether the string passed as the argument is empty. • CHECKCONTAINNUMBER, which tells (true/false) whether the string passed as the argument contains at least one number. • Define additional functions as you deem it necessary. Be aware that your PC clock may not be synchronized with BB’s clock, so the submission may appear to close a few minutes earlier that expected.
