CS 396 Term Project Information System for Air Quality Overview According to the World Health Organization, long-term and short-term exposure to toxic air pollutants are considered as the major risk factor in human diseases including cancer, eyes irritation, skin diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory diseases. Air pollution is now the world’s fourth-leading fatal health risk, causing one in ten deaths. Obviously, the health and environmental agencies have made air pollution control the top priority. The key to air pollution control lies in timely air quality monitoring and accurate prediction on the change of air pollutants, including particle pollution (P2.5 and P10), CO, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, lead, etc. The objective of this project is to develop and implement an information system for monitoring and forecasting air quality. Individual Project 1: Building Website Using Django (Due on Sep. 20) The goal of this project is to build a website which can provide services of forum, documentation, searching, linking, etc. Please use Django to finish this project and you can find some tutorials here https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/2.2/intro/tutorial01/ Your project should be able to do the following tasks: 1. Create an administrator who can delete other users, delete/edit all posts, create new discussion topics 2. Provide login function, and sign-up function for new users. 3. Any user can create a new post, and reply other users’ posts. 4. Any user can upload files (could be multiple files). 5. Show the numbers of posts and visits, and keep these numbers updated. 6. You can store some files on your website 7. You can use buttons for linking to other information sources. 8. Your Website interface should be friendly. 9. Bonus: Show a warning a message/sign to remind users that there is an update or something interesting posted in the forum (words/content/…etc). Please submit a zip file, including 1. ReadMe 2. Project report 3. Source codes. ReadMe file includes major instruction steps for repeating your project results. Anyone should be able to follow the instructions and run your source codes correctly. Individual Project 2 draft: Database Management System (Due on Oct 25) There are four main types of air pollution sources: mobile sources (such as cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains), stationary sources (such as power plants, oil refineries, industrial facilities, and factories), area sources (such as agricultural areas, cities, and wood burning fireplaces), natural sources (such as wind-blown dust, wildfires, and volcanoes). Therefore, it is important to record the site of measurement (receptor), weather conditions (wind direction, wind speed, humidity, temperature, etc), and time. Also, the detailed city information should be maintained. Vehicle pollution is one of the major pollution sources and vehicle emissions are a major contributor to air pollution in cities. In fact, the emission level has close relationship with the type of vehicles. Usually, we are interested in the following information about the vehicle: engine family, manufacturer name, brand, vehicle model, model year, etc. Power plant is another important pollution source, which heavily impacts air quality. You are required to design a database system to maintain the above pollution data, meteorological data, vehicle data, and city data. You database should be supported by the Django server that you have setup in project 1.
Open up cmd prompt Use "cd" command to navigate through directory. Go into Project 2 directory and run the cmd "django\forum\Scripts\activate.bat" in cmd shell to start virtual environment After starting venv, go into "Project 1\mysite" and this is where you will be able to run server with "py manage.py runserver" After running server, go to 127.0.0.1:8000 on your preferred web browser to open up the website. To go to admin webpage, simply go to 127.0.0.1:8000/admin/
