The University provides us with a webspace that can be accessed through virtual lab online, it gives access to the drives of a school computer. I will add a word document that shows how to access vlab, login info, and where to access the web space. The project is to build this website according to the project requirements, attachment HTML_Project.pdf. Due date is October 5th at 7 AM EST, so I will need it by October 4th so I can turn in the files.

This will open up what you would see on a school computer 6. Go to file explorer 7. Under Network locations, click the U: drive (Gainesville(\\apps-gc)(U:)) 8. Click webspace>student>ugash6708 9. You will see the index page for my website 10. Files/images/changes must be saved to this location 11. HTML must be edited with Notepad++

CSCI 1250 - HTML / CSS Project Due Date: Monday, September 28th, 7:00 a.m. Overview: • In this assignment you will be creating a website, using proper HTML5 and CSS, that consists of a minimum of three pages making up a complete site, centered around a unifying topic. The first page of your website should be saved as index.html and serves as an entry page to your site. (Hint – make a backup of the index.html before you get started and save your work often!) • Make a web site that people will want to visit and read. Make certain your site has interesting information in it; that it is well organized and easy to navigate; and that it is artistically pleasing. • All pages should be properly saved to your web folder on the U: drive, i.e., U:\webspace\student\<your user name> • You will be graded on both your content and design, and will lose points for broken links, HTML/CSS errors, and spelling and grammar errors. • You may create more than three pages but do not get carried away with pages. Make sure that you have enough information to make the page interesting. For example, if you want to provide some relevant links, don’t make a separate page for two or three links that could be included in a side bar. If you break your topic into five separate areas but there is not enough relevant information to fill a page, do not make five separate pages, combine 2-3 relevant topics into one page to make the page interesting and complete. In that scenario, you could also use a sidebar with links to the different sections of the page rather than having a separate page for each topic. Also, each page should have a purpose. A page of nothing but pictures is NOT a complete web page. Topic: My Favorite Hobby Create a website highlighting you and your favorite hobby. This could be a craft, a sport, a physical activity you enjoy, etc. It can be anything that interests you and you enjoy doing on a regular basis, provided the content would not be inappropriate to host on the UNG web server. If you have any doubt about the topic, ask before you create the site. You can include information for things like: • The hobby itself: o What is it? o What types of activities are involved? o What kind of person should consider taking up this hobby? o Famous people that have also participated in the activity. • Reasons to get started in this hobby/activity: o What in your background or personality made this activity appealing? o What benefits do you gain by participating in this hobby? o Are there any opportunities to help others? o Does this hobby open doors for you in other areas? • What kinds of tools, equipment, training, etc., is required to start out and/or develop in this hobby: o Is any special equipment required? o Is specific training or practice required? o Do people compete in this area? If yes, what kind of competitions and awards might someone enjoy or pursue? o How long does it take to become skilled if someone wants to compete? o Is there a social aspect to the event? You do not have to include everything in this list of suggestions. This should be something that is both entertaining for you to develop/create but also helps me and anyone else viewing the website, get to know you and the hobby you enjoy. When you are done, I should be able to review your site and come away with a better understanding of who you are, what this hobby is, how this hobby has evolved over time, how the activity influenced you since you started participating, etc. Work to make it appealing, interesting, and educational, both about you and the activity you enjoy. You do not have to get deeply personal but it should reveal something about you as a person and how/why you like the subject you choose. Technical Criteria: • On each page you should include a graphic title or logo that you create. An online tool like, www.flamingtext.com offers a lot of options. This must be a graphic you create with an app or an online tool. Include a comment tag in your code to site the source you used to create the graphic/logo. • You also need to include an embedded video regarding something about your hobby. Most of you will use youtube.com or vimeo.com for this purpose but other sites are allowed. MAKE SURE YOU TEST THIS ON MULTIPLE COMPUTERS! If the video doesn’t play for me, you get no credit for embedding the video. • In the head section of your index.html file, use at least three meta-tags: 1) keywords, 2) descriptions, and 3) the author tag. The following code is for the author tag: <meta name="author" content="Your Name" />. Locate the other meta-tags at w3schools. • Use descriptive title tags on each page. • There should be paragraph and heading text on each page, as well as images. (<p> and heading <h1>, <h2>, <h3> . . <h6>, <br> <img .... > • You will be creating three linked web pages. Using the button tag, set up navigational links to all the pages. Include this code on all three pages so viewers can navigate easily through your site with any of the buttons. • Verify that your homepage (http://student.ung.edu/username/) is visible to the public using a web browser. I will be grading them “live” from a browser. For consistency, I will be using the latest version of Chrome installed on the UNG campus image. It MUST work from that location to receive credit. Use the VLAB to test your site. • Code your HTML by hand using Notepad++, or another text editor. Do not use an html editor. You need to write the code yourself. If you use an html editor, you will receive zero (0) points for the assignment! • Be sure your homepage (index.html) has the disclaimer. This is the only page that needs it but this is required for all webpages hosted on the UNG server. You can style the disclaimer to make it match your page but it MUST be included. Grading Rubric: 135 points possible • 120 pts – For clean working HTML/CSS code. Use HTML5 and CSS. Your CSS can be internal or external. If you use an external sheet, include that page in your submission. NOTE: Don’t forget that, if using an external style sheet, the browser will use the last read CSS. This means that, if you identify the location of your external sheet below your internal CSS in the head, the external sheet will take precedence because the browser will read it after the internal style. • 15 pts – Effort! Take your time building this site. Make yourself proud! Check and double-check your spelling and grammar. I expect college-level work from you on this project and will grade accordingly. Project Requirements: Use the following HTML Tags: • Header tags • Title tags • Paragraph and line breaks • Horizontal rule(s) • The quote tag for short quotations • At least one table • At least one DIV tag • At least one of each list type: an un- ordered list, an ordered list and a description list. • At least one image on each page with ALT tag • Make one image a hyperlink • One or two external hyperlinks on each page to resources outside your site that are relevant to the content. It should be coded to open in a new tab or browser window. • An email hyperlink. • A navigation bar on every page. This can be at top, the bottom, or on the side but it should be easy and intuitive to find. The bar should include three (or more) button tags that hyperlink to all three (or more) web pages. Required on every page. • An embedded video • Meta tags for keywords, descriptions, and the author tag • Create and use a graphic title or logo. Be sure to site your source of the app you used using comment code. • Disclaimer on the homepage Style at least 7 of your HTML tags. Use one or more of the following styles on the 7 HTML tags you picked. • Background • Border styles: at least two with one being specifically for the left border • Text styles - use more than one • Font styles - use more than one • Link decoration/color for hyperlinks • One closed class for a specific HTML tag • Advanced CSS - Rounded corners • Advanced CSS – Style your button tag Lists styles • Table styles • One open class that you can use on any HTML tag
