ITSE1346

An Excel Worksheet has records for many possible objects. You are to import the Excel worksheet to an Access2010/13 database named “ITSC1346_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_BANKING.accdb” as a table object then “Normalize” the data into a valid database structure resulting in tables properly named in at least the 3 rd Normal Form. You will then show the resulting objects and their probable relationships in the Access Relationships view of the “ITSC1346_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_BANKING.accdb” database application object. For this problem, select what you consider an appropriate Primary Key for each Table, and a Loan or Payment cannot be made unless the Customer and Loan exist respectively. You may create surrogate ID's where required if no valid candidate key exists. 1. Import the data from the instructors Excel Workbook which has all the data in a single worksheet. You must use the attribute names provided in the worksheet. However you may use the table name as a qualifier. 2. Normalize the database to the 3 RD Normal Form, by breaking the initial table into several objects (Relations)) naming each new relation with an appropriate Entity/ Object Class Name. Use your best judgment to Re-size the attribute properties of all the new relations to fit the data, and supply any appropriate domain restrictions. 3. Delete the original “Imported Table” from your Objects view 4. Resolve any weak relationships by using the Relational Integrity box in the “RELATIONSHIP VIEW” of the database. 5. Use the Database Tables you create, generate a SELECT query named “Original Format” for viewing the data back in its original form. Remember to save this. 6. Create a “Grouped Report” call “Loan History” based upon all the fields in the above defined query by using the REPORT WIZARD showing which Customer has which Loans Grouped by Customers in the Stepped, Landscape layout. 7.
