Interacting with Matlab via m-files (Discussion) As your Matlab tutorial said, it can become cumbersome to write a number of lines of code in the Command Window. Errors are not easily corrected and it is not easy to run the code multiple times with different choices of parameters. The alternative is to create an m-file. In this module, you will get a brief introduction to the recommended structure of an m-file. Notice in the following example m-file (‘TwoD_EdgeDislocation.m) all of the text after the symbol % are comments which are not executed when you run the m-file script. If you write comments in your m-file, they will appear in green font on the computer. These comment lines are intended to help you and others who read your m-file interpret what you were thinking when you wrote the m-file. There are many ways to write commands that achieve the same thing, so it is important to include comment lines to make it clear how your m-file works. At this point in time, it isn’t important to understand all of the content of the following m-file, but it is important to see how it is put together, and to recognize some of the commands you were introduced to in the Matlab tutorial in Lab 1.
