Supplemental Project Work Programming 1 Page 1 lejla.rovcanin@tudublin.ie A Problem Solution in C++ Objective Your task is to work in a team to build and test a usable and effective software solution in C++ to meet a set of specified criteria. The aims of this project are:  To learn C++ programming language and improve programming skills through practical work on an project to solve a specific problem and demonstrate mastery in C++,  To systematically approach code development and learn how to document project work, Additionally, you will develop communication skills in presenting and describing technical material. Due Date June 14. Plagiarism This task is not a group activity; The code, writing, and the inspiration behind these must be substantially your own. If any person besides your team contributes in any way to the task, their work must be credited in the report. Similarly, if you include information that you have gleaned from other published sources, you must cite them as references. Looking at, and/or copying, other people's code or written work is inappropriate, and will be considered cheating and will result in ZERO marks. You will be also questioned about your work. If a student fails to answer questions about his/her work correctly (i.e. does not know what a feature does or why it is there!) it will be assumed that (s)he has copied the work and will get ZERO marks. It is always better to do your own work, as even simple but honest of attempts should achieve a pass grade, while complex but copied work will achieve a fail grade. Failure to submit all of the deliverables before the due date will result in a Fail result for the project. For further information on plagiarism refer to your Student Handbook and TU DUBLIN website. Remember, the aim is to learn what is only done by doing, coping does not result in learning. Project Guidelines The classic three-tier architecture should be employed:  Presentation Layer: C++ (command prompt)  Application Layer: C++  Storage (persistence layer): files Requirements: Choose a sport club of your choice and develop a program for entering, calculating and printing match results. The solution should (minimal requirements):  Allow results to be maintained (Allow users to enter data, print results, etc.)  Allow the addition and removal of players  Allow management to check player accounts and results  Allow users to calculate and compare results Extra functionality and features should be included as you think necessary for your program. Marks This project is an alternative supplemental assessment for Programming 1 module. mailto:lejla.rovcanin@tudublin.ie Supplemental Project Work Programming 1 Page 2 lejla.rovcanin@tudublin.ie Project Deliverables Software Demonstrations Each student will be required to give a demonstration of her/his working system. The demo will be take place via Bongo on Brightspace. At the demonstration the student will show how the application works for some or all of the requirements. What to submit? 1. Source code 2. Test record 3. User Manual (not more than 3 pages) How to submit? Upload all files via Brightspace. Marking scheme Project Deliverables % Criteria Software Demonstrations 10% Completeness – are all of the requirements met Robustness (error handling) and degree of complexity Quality of the given answers (handling questions) User Manual 5% Presentation and clarity Adherence to Application Test record 5% Clarity and completeness User interaction 5% Usability – how does it look? How easy is it to use? Functionality? Source Code 75% Correctness, Style and readability Maintainability, Database access Documentation, Comments, identation mailto:lejla.rovcanin@tudublin.ie
